It’s said that ‘Practice makes Perfect’ but in our everyday world I believe Practice makes us better at doing those things we don’t like doing, or those we avoid for as long as we can! Practice makes it easier to achieve the things we tell ourselves are difficult, Practice makes it easier to complete tasks we want to get done, and practice often makes it easier to choose new approaches or solutions rather than stick with the default ones we always use.

We’ll work together and encourage each other to practice and improve how we communicate our business offering and marketing message, to the world around us. We’re going to focus on how we can best achieve great results in line with our key business objectives.

blackboardWe’re holding a series of practical sessions focussing on improving communication skills and exploring marketing tools and encouraging you to ‘try it out’, practice and improve! In-session topics will be extended into online challenges where possible. Session Topics: Let’s go video – practising your video skills using Facebook Live, presentation skills – 5 minute in session presentations with group feedback, revisiting blogging and developing great content and following though with practice and feedback from the group, exploring SMART email marketing, engaging better on social media platforms INSTAGRAM & FACEBOOK and social media time saving tips.

bb-networkingBusy Bee Networking meetings are held every second Tuesday during term time, in Hale (Altrincham) and Chorlton, and every second Thursday in Didsbury and NEW in Knutsford. Meetings are from 10am to midday and are open to members and non-members. Meetings begin again at Piccolino’s in Hale, on Tuesday 13th September at 10am.

It’s funny how ideas circle around and certain topics that require attention come up again and again until you acknowledge and address them. Well that’s been happening to me in the last few days.

Be True to You – It’s your business, run it your way
Advice is good but remember advice comes from another person’s perspective. Listening is good, adapting is good but replicating exactly what another business does, will more than likely not work the same way for you!

Failure is a Good Teacher
We all stumble and trip and learn from mistakes, and as a result, improve how we run our businesses – we get to the point when we realise we can trust ourselves, trust in our expertise and believe in our unique abilities. Once you harness that confidence you begin to ‘own’ your business and run it as you see fit!

We’re Passionate
Many of us set up businesses because we’re passionate about what we do and the drive to develop our services comes from a deep concern for our clients’ needs. so what we do is very closely wrapped up in who we are and what we care deeply about.

Be Prepared
It’s not so easy when someone questions what you do or criticises what you say or how you run your business. In those moments, it’s all too easy to lose sight of why you do what you do – it’s easy to be swayed by what others say you ‘should’ do.
We need to be ready, be prepared to take on the world – package up what we offer and stay true to who we are.

Do yourself a favour (now this is just advice & it works for me…)
Revisit the basics of your business and get your story straight – you know why you do what you do, what you’re passionate about and what drives you to work with your ideal clients. You know what they love about engaging in business with you and you know why they choose you over other options in the marketplace.

Listen to your heart, listen to your favourite clients and make it clear to the world what you do and why you do it your way. Own it, value it and believe in it! When you do this, you communicate with Confidence and Conviction AND you are prepared when someone questions you or criticises you. Your self-belief and self-assurance both protect you and guide you, as you respond.

Shoot for the stars
Taking a leaf from Naomi’s book (Naomi Gilmour, Branching Out Online) I think we are all super heroes – as business owners, we all can fly to the moon and shoot for the stars! But our super hero cape doesn’t just help us soar, it guards us in the certainty of who we are and why we choose to do what we do.

I started Busy Bee Networking because I love helping women find their voice, their certainty and their confidence. I can see it in the women I meet, I can hear it in what they say. They have passion, drive and dreams, and they have uncertainty too which gets worked out over time as they develop their offering and build up their business.

I want to continue to offer women running businesses a friendly, safe and constructive environment in which to grow their business. I want to continue to see the changes that liberate the dreams and makes them a reality. But most of all I want to continue to see the support and generosity you show to each other as you all work to make a success of running your own businesses around a busy family life.

You run your business – do it your way, and get all the help you need along the way!

There’s a growing passion among female business owners in Cheshire to achieve success on our terms. Running businesses for most of us is about following a dream and making it work around family obligations, and a desire for a balanced and productive life. We’ve got so much to give and so much to celebrate that we’ve decided to dedicate a special day to highlight and celebrate the great pool of female talent that exists in Cheshire.

Power of Networking

Connections, support and inspiration are some of the words that describe what women look for in networking, and every story we hear, is motivated by a desire to convert a powerful passion into a dream business. We know networking works because it fulfils our need to connect and grow, it gives us access to a talent pool of inspiring and successful women who are making dreams come true, and fulfilling businesses work for them!

On Thursday the 9th of July we are reaching out and gathering together to celebrate the abundance of female talent that exists in Cheshire. We want to recognise the amazing business women in the region and bring together women from Busy Bee Networking, Flourish Networking Circle, Women’s Business Network and Sue France’s Networking Women in Cheshire.

Where do we go from here?

bigwhereThe Bumps in the Road….

Wherever you’re at in building your business there’s almost always a fork in the road. Decisions and choices are an everyday challenge and, when you run your own business the buck ultimately stops with you!

When the ‘start-up’ excitement subsides and the distraction of concept creation fades, you could be left with a business that’s running on empty waiting for clients to flood you with an abundance of orders, while you hardly even break a sweat!

That’s when you can get bitten by the ‘should’ bug – you should be spending more time networking, should be posting your prices on your website, you should be on twitter more, boosting posts and creating Facebook ads, completing your profile on LinkedIn, Google plus, Pinterest, posting videos, hosting webinars, podcasts…. should, should, should – bitten!


Now is the time to launch your business for real – launch the ship and make it happen – stop waiting for the perfect time to be a success – as someone once said – Just Do It! Remember what you wanted to do with your business when you set it up – remember you had the ideas and energy – well, you still have, but it’s all too easy to think everyone else is doing it soooo much better! They’re not!

This is the challenging time for those of us running our own business and trying to make it pay! Opportunities come round again and again and there will be no perfect time to jump on board – we’ll only learn from trying – so go for it!

Running your own business is the trip of a lifetime – this is it – feel the exhilaration and do it anyway! This is your chance to take your dream and shoot for the stars and all you have to do is package and replicate – package up your offering, stake your claim to your business expertise and begin to replicate your offering again and again, to those ideal clients who are getting to know, love and trust you!

Sure, stuff can go wrong – don’t freak out, you’re not a failure – you are good enough – remember you are a brave pioneer breaking new ground – doing it your way – it’s OK !!

There is no rule book! It’s your mind-set that will bring you Success so don’t give up the fight – create new rules, change the rules, get rid of the rules – just trust yourself and believe you’re perfectly equipped to do it. So much about starting and running your own business is about believing you can do it – when the energy and excitement wanes, keep your eye on what you set out to achieve and remind yourself, why!?

so where do you go from here?

Package and Replicate with confidence. Gather up all the experience you’ve gained from day one, and Stake your Claim to your unique business offering (your unique BO!). Ditch the dead-end services you offered at the request of less than ideal clients and go with those that you believe in. Begin to communicate with confidence and conviction and once and for all learn to say NO!

Focus on your Ideal Client. Ready? Aim, fire – define and refine – accept who they are! You know the clients you want to work with and you know those that pull on your time, your skills and your bank balance, so really learn to say NO and refer them on to a grateful associate. Move out from the circle of only doing business with friends and family and start to focus on the new ideal clients that just haven’t met you yet. Start to market ‘you’ to the ‘unknown’ new ideal clients out there, waiting to pick up your scent!

Go to where they are… Now choose what you need to do to find them (not what others tell you, you should do!!). Match up your offering with the needs of your ideal clients – know what they value and where they spend their time – search them out and let them know what you’ve got to offer. Use your shared language to help them recognise you understand their needs. Let them know what they’ll experience when they engage in business with you.

Remember the confidence and conviction – you’ve done this many times before – you’ve offered and delivered solutions to many clients just like these new ones. You’re the expert in your field and you know your business well, you believe in what you offer. Your ideal clients, old and knew ‘get’ that from your communications – your website, blogs, posts, etc. Wherever they come into contact with you, they get the same consistent package, and they love businesses like yours, that they can trust to reliably deliver again and again.

This is it…. Package up your offering, get rid of the dross, focus on your position in the vast expanse that is the market place – know where you’re aiming for, and shoot for the stars – it’s all there for you, for the taking!

Ask any small business owner and they’ll tell you all the things they love about running their own business, but equally there’ll be a list of ‘dislikes’ that include…. SALES and SELLING. Whatever small business owners tell us, ‘Selling’ is often near the top of the list! Many woman business owners I come into contact with, find it particularly challenging BUT closing sales and winning business simply has to be done!
